“The House on Halsey” Canvas Print

As many of you know, I am one of eight children and also have a very large extended family. Congdons are spread far and wide today, however all those cousins, aunts, and uncles can all be traced back to a small house on Halsey Street in Portland, Oregon. For decades this house sheltered 12 brothers and sisters as they grew, worked, sang, and played music. One by one, they would all eventually leave to pursue education, careers, and families, but through it all, the little house on Halsey was always there to welcome them home.
This past year, we had to say a sad goodbye to this family landmark. Little remains of the buildings, land, and trees so many of us had come to know so well. We’ll never again pull into the driveway late in the evening, tired from the road, to see the glow of the lights and anticipate the loving welcome at the door. But the countless memories we all share and treasure will live on, as we fondly look back.
