Invictus

Invictus is a Latin word meaning invincible, unconquerable, or undefeated. That may seem an overly ambitious title to apply to a hawk, but my appreciation of these fantastic hunters coupled with the intense pose this one gave me seemed to help the name fit. This particular bird is a Harris Hawk, and I have been fortunate to photograph this fellow on a few occasions. I had loved his coloration and movement from the beginning, and it was an easy decision to create a piece with him as the centerpiece. The rest of the scene is pieced together from different shots around Big Bend, which fortunately is one of the natural habitats of the Harris Hawk. I knew that the two matched together would be a winning combination!
