“Castolon Moon” Linocut Print

$80.00

In a park absolutely filled with memorable natural wonders, one of the most recognizable features in Big Bend is Castolon. This imposing rock formation juts out of the desert floor, and its multicolored strata are visible for miles. I had not yet featured it in a painting or illustration, but an interesting opportunity to do so presented itself.
One goal I have for myself as a teacher is that I be capable of completing any project I give to my students. I also want my class demos to be as professional as possible. When it came time to introduce linocut printing (something I had never done) I knew I would have to fight through a learning curve to create to that standard. For the subject, I decided on a nighttime scene of the Big Bend desert with Castolon featured prominently. I won’t bore you with the details, but if you are interested in how this one came to life, check out my making-of video here! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4ISye_s5Ak

“Castolon Moon” is my first ever linocut print, and it’s been a terrific growing process learning this technique. Each print in this edition of 50 will be hand-inked and printed by me. Due to this venerable technique, each print will have slight variations- no 2 will be identical!
