On the Easel

Now, here is something totally different!

School is back in session, which means that I am back to creating project demos in all kinds of different styles. While I could be content to reuse old projects each year, I find myself continually drawn to trying out new, sometimes obscure, forms of design to see if they will work in my class. This particular style takes me back to my early childhood days in Australia. It is my attempt to honor the beautiful, vibrant, and stylistic painting technique of the Aborigines!

Plein Air in Uvalde, TX

After one of the strangest and most difficult years of my life, I finally find myself with a little time to get back to oil painting! Teaching art has been a challenging and rewarding experience, but creating for myself provides something else altogether. This little 8×10 was started on-location at a beautiful property just outside Uvalde. I saw the awesome cypress tree next to the lake and knew it should be in a painting. Time and mosquitos forced me to finish this one indoors, but for the first oil painting completed in well over a year, I am very happy!

Making progress! But bugs everywhere…
